Around The Horn – 5/24/10

Today I want to give a long overdue tip of the cap to some people who encourage me on a regular basis. These are some quotes that have stuck with me over the past week or so from their blogs, and I hope I’m not doing them a disservice by taking them out of context a bit. I am constantly encouraged by these saints and if you haven’t visited their sites before, you should take the time to do so.

Chrystal from Thoughts In The Watchtower in a post from May 12:

“The secret of being content in all circumstances (of which Paul speaks in Philippians 4:11) is two-fold; it involves being enthralled in the greatness of God on one hand, and losing all care for man’s esteem on the other. The more I try to justify myself before other people (whether in arguing my position, gaining possessions, surrounding myself with ‘yes’-men rather than those who speak what I need to hear) the more offensive I smell to God; it shows that I care more about my reputation than I do about His glory.”

Barbara from Collection in a post from May 22:

“We need more Richard Wurmbrands and William Tyndales to be raised up, who will stand up as men of God and speak up and proclaim the Gospel in the midst of this western version of cultural, social club ‘Christianity’ that looks and sounds more like moralistic deism than the life of Christ Himself. We need more men who have eyes with which to see and ears with which to hear, to discern the line between the death of moralistic law and the new life imparted by the Holy Spirit through the Gospel.”

Claire from One Passion One Devotion in a post from May 19:

“Our devo time is time to love God and be loved by Him, to have a revelation of His love by prayer and worship and reading the Word. We READ that God loves us and about His wonderful kindness and His grace and everlasting love and that should gladden our heart and make us want to know Him more and draw near Him more and obey Him more.”

Les from Regenerated.us in a post from May 18:

“If, as the Bible tells us, GOD chose to have mercy on you, open your eyes to Him, and give you the gift of faith… then all the glory goes to it’s rightful place. Let’s not attempt to share in God’s glory. Let’s praise God for opening our eyes by grace alone, and not by our own doing or willing (Romans 9:15-16).

“Let’s praise God for his Sovereign regenerating work, and not see it as a threat. Because without it, none of us would ever come to Him.”
