“I know your deeds, and your love and faith and service and perseverance, and that your deeds of late are greater than at first.” – Revelation 2:19 (NASB)
Here in the 2nd chapter of Revelation, Jesus is addressing the church at Thyatira. There are some disturbing things going on at this church (immorality, idol worship) but there are some good things happening as well. Apparently the people here are still increasing in their good works and their “deeds of late are greater than at first.”
I think this is a great challenge for us today, especially as we get set to start a new year. Are we growing as Christians ? Growing in godliness ? Can others look at us and say they see our love for others growing, our good works towards others increasing ?
In his Concise Commentary on the Whole Bible, Matthew Henry states that, “All Christians should earnestly desire that their last works may be their best works.”
Let’s keep that in mind as we turn the page towards 2009.
