Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me! Then I shall be blameless, and innocent of great transgression.” – Psalm 19:13 (ESV)
Last night and this morning I read Psalm 19. I’ve been trying to read a Psalm each day, either in the morning or at night. This Psalm is a great reminder to steep yourself in God’s Word – “The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple” (v.7).
Each day brings forth distractions and temptations to align ourselves with the world and its values. These distractions and temptations, if left unchecked, turn into sins…and sooner or later, they do have “dominion” over us. What an impossible struggle it would be if we could not return to God’s Word and His promises, His “testimonies” and His “precepts”, and find great strength there.
Heavenly Father, please keep me from these sins that grieve You. Let them not have dominion over me. Your grace is sufficient for me and may abiding in Your Word keep me from the depths of sin. Amen.
