Reflections on 1 Corinthians 10 – 10/29/08

Now these things happened to them as an example, but they were written down for our instruction, on whom the end of the ages has come.” – 1 Corinthians 10:11 (ESV)

Paul writes here about the Israelites and how they disobeyed and let several sins get between them and their relationship with and obedience to God: idolatry, grumbling (discontentment), sexual immorality, and others.

How difficult life is when we do not take heed of the warnings offered to us in Scripture, about those who came before us. Paul explains that they were “written down for our instruction”, and we would be wise to take this instruction today.

Heavenly Father, thank you for the instruction that You provide in your Word. Please help me to learn from it and grant me a greater sense of contentment today.
