I write so that you will know how one ought to conduct himself in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and support of the truth.” – 1 Timothy 3:15 (NASB)
John MacArthur was speaking about Christmas hymns and carols in his Grace To You TV broadcast yesterday. He discussed many ancient hymns that have been written over the years. And he also pointed out that there are many hymns or fragments of hymns that are found in our Bible, many times just placed between the narrative text, that we can sometimes overlook. One of the examples MacArthur discussed can be found at 1 Timothy 3:16 (NASB). In his study Bible, MacArthur explains that, “Its 6 lines form a concise summary of the truth of the gospel.” (p. 1835). This is a great one to read and meditate on.
“He who was revealed in the flesh,
Was vindicated in the Spirit,
Seen by angels,
Proclaimed among the nations,
Believed on in the world,
Taken up in glory.”
