John MacArthur, from his book The Miracle of Christmas (p. 23):
“Why should we fear Him and hope in His mercy ? Because we are sinners in need of forgiveness. We must first recognize our sinfulness if we are to place our lives under His government. But the good news is that Christ gave His own sinless, guiltless life on our behalf, to die for our sins and save us from God’s wrath. We can do nothing to earn His favor, but He promises salvation if we will turn from our sins and embrace Him by faith.”

This is a great point and if we take for what is worth we can be true bliss.
